Oceano Dunes Natural Preserve
Whenever I am out in the dunes, my eyes are drawn to movement--the dynamic interplay of light and shadow, texture and form. In this sunrise image, the lines at my feet--rather than middle or distant views--were entrancing. Edward Weston (1884-1958), the famous West Coast photographer who made fine art photographs from all sorts of subject matter (including vegetables), was once challenged to find a compelling composition to photograph from a seemingly mundane location. He rose to the occasion and made three good photographs. He remarked "A good photographer should be able to make a worthwhile photograph looking down at his feet."
