Canyonlands
Canyonlands National Park, Utah
I think Shafer Canyon is one of the most underrated scenic views of the American West. It offers epic views of Canyonlands National Park including distant views of Arches National Park. The foreground and midground canyons and mesas show off the pink-to-red Navajo sandstone, and the distant views of Arches reveal the lighter yellow-orange Entrada sandstone. Above the canyons, the snow-covered La Sal Mountains dominate the horizon. Atmospheric haze and ground clutter are typical in winter and early spring, but on this day the atmosphere was crystal-clear, revealing amazing details in the eroded canyon walls and mesas. Patches of snow and dark contrasting sandstone increase the drama of this grand scenic panorama.
